Goalkeeper Charlie Freeman is now in his third year as a full-time player with us.
His second season with the Under-18s, 2017-18, was plagued by injuries but he returned to the bench for Scott Parker's side in March, 2018, before playing in a 5-3 defeat at Norwich City the following month. Following the conclusion of the league season, he put in some solid performances in his second consecutive year at the Under-19 Volksbank Cup in Stemwede, Germany, where he kept two clean sheets.
A London lad who was born in Goodmayes, Charlie was brought up in Chigwell, attending the local West Hatch High School. He was a regular for our Under-16s in 2015-16 and also appeared on the substitutes’ bench for the Under-18s on three occasions.
One of four stoppers competing for places at that level in 2016-17, he had to be patient in waiting for his chances, finally making his Under-18 Premier League debut in December, 2016, in a 3-2 defeat at Norwich. He then captained a very young side in his second appearance in the competition away at Aston Villa in February, 2017.
In addition to those two appearances, he was one of the younger members of the group that went to Stemwede for the Volksbank Cup in May, 2017, where he started against FC Copenhagen and Mühlenkreis Team.
